Burning the Bed was made under the RTÉ/Irish Film Board joint scheme: Short Cuts. This scheme allows Irish Film Makers to make dramas in the short film format with a small but useful budget and a certain amount of exposure guaranteed—the films are shown on RTÉ (Ireland’s national broadcaster) and at several film festivals both in Ireland and internationally. The scheme deliberately looks for works of imagination that will be executed cinematically with visual flair.
